WAIT AND SEE
Parable of the horse.
Over the weekend I spent quite a bit of time meditating on the parable of the horse, which is as follows…
A stallion wandered on to a man's property. And in seeing this, his neighbor came out and said, you, you are loved by the gods. You are blessed and highly favored. What must I do to be loved by God like you? And the man looked at his neighbor and he said, “Wait and see.”
The next morning, the man asked his eldest son to break the stallion. And within mere moments, he was bucked off the back and legs mangled underneath the [horse’s] hooves. Immediately, his neighbor arrived, shouting, he is cursed. Unloved and unlucky. Tell everyone in the village that this man is cursed and will bring famine and plague upon us all. And that horse has been sent by Satan himself. Tell everyone he is unloved. And as the man picked up his son, he looked at his neighbor and replied, “Wait and see.”
The next morning trumpets could be heard, and everyone in the village ran out to see, for it was a decree from the king that every abled-bodied firstborn son must march that day, for the king was to go to war.
And in that moment, the neighbor dropped to his knees and looked at the man and said, you, you are loved by the gods, highly favored and blessed, for he has mangled your son and thus saved your lineage for your son will not go to war.
What must I do to be as lucky as you?
And the man looked at his neighbor and replied, “wait and see.”
