CREATIVITY

After my spinal surgery, I became overwhelmingly infatuated with the concept of drawing anatomical, highly detailed, contorted spines.

I would draw these wispy ghost figures, and there was a point where I began to boil it down.

How much could I take away for the viewer to still know it was a body?

How little information could I put into this piece and still have the message received?

The beauty is that it could be bad.

Creating can be bad because those who have the relampico, the spark of creativity that lives inside of them, must live in the blurred lines of chaos and curiosity because the risk is the experiment, the reward is the pata vida for life, and that creativity as a risk is the unending well from which the artist draws.

There are only so many strings on a guitar, so every song is fought for.

But creativity is then a risk, right?

It could be bad.

But then that risk gives others the opportunity to iterate, chew on it, think about it, make it their own, fight about it, cry about it, laugh about it.

Iteration then becomes mainstream, and then everybody's doing it…

And when it gets to that point, when it is mainstream and or corporate, it cannot be reversed because that ability to risk, to be fearless, [is not corporate].

You must be fearless to be a writer, to be a musician, to be a painter, to be a poet, designer, to be an actor, to be a leader, because that's what they're doing.

They are leading design, writing, music, thus you have to be fearless because it could be bad, and in that you have the fortitude to go forward or change direction, make anew, it is an unending well that the artists tap into.

Wnd I say that because what we witness this last week with the gala… was the attempt to invert the creative process.

It was a clear experiment to go from Amazon basics to the essence, the para vida of fashion.

And I think that, that is why it felt void, flat… Or this could have been an email...

Not because there weren't heavy hitters creating.

It is that we can sense that this was an attempt to invert that creative process, that, wow, the no-holds-bar of creativity kissed by fashion. That which is the relampico of creativity, the spark, I create for existing, I need it.

That's broaching on what I surmise has happened and or is happening.
