THE PERFORMANCE

“We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

Over the last couple of weeks, I've spoken a bit about refilling one's cup and authenticity.

But this quote and the current events of this week have fractured in me something profound about the “performance of life” and how we are now seeing it.

There's a wonderful TikTok where a girl talks about how the mirrored world, the performance of life, is becoming woven into our society, communication, goods, services; and yet authenticity is sought after, but authenticity means one must have the practice and the ability to heal and refill one's own cup.

And so the performance is preferred.

No one can hurt you because their words hit your mask.

No one can judge you because they don't know you.

You have a secret shield, and when people talk about you, being fake too…There's a performance.

And yet, the most important thing that I've been finding and meditating on this is that when you rely on it, and you expect others to rely on it, the “illusion of life”, can be talked away, trended away, news cycled away, because the truth without the mask is painful.

There's a really good story about “The Mirror World” that I'll put in here.

But because truth is painful, and it is quite hard to refill one's cup, without your authentic self. And so the preference of a mirror world, a performative lifestyle - it's such a soft and velvet glove Because the truth is, is if we as a society, as a nation, as a world, looked beyond the performance of it all, we would have to be extremely healed for the truth; that that ear is fully intact would make this world shudder at the fact of a painful truth.

Which is, what have we done? If that is the truth, and we do not need the performance, we are going to put down our performance. We are going to look at reality. What does that reality show us?

What is the truest of truths?

Then that will be painful. When I speak about healing, it is not an abstract concept.

It is because to hold truth, to touch truth, to know, one must be healed and have the capacity to continuously heal - Because we do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.

And if we are healed, we view the world from a healing lens, I believe.

And that's what I've been meditating on this morning.
